YOLK

YOLK are a collective of musicians who compose for voice. We originally formed in 2018 as a lab for composers to test out compositional and improvisatory ideas for voices. As a group of singers ourselves, we have met regularly over the last 4 years, where over the course of a day we have been guided by each member who had material and ideas to test. Coming from different backgrounds, our practice has involved movement alongside singing, singing by ear, improvisatory techniques as well as sheet music as well as theatrical music. This has led to further refinement of ideas and also culminated in completed compositions. We have held several public showings of our work, including at the Old Church in London March 2023 where my piece “Halilem” was performed.
