Greenwood Side Video

In summer 2021 I collaborated with a group of singers and filmmaker Rik Simms to record my re-working of this traditional English/Scottish song.

Full of familiar ancient images - blood that won’t stop flowing from a knife, spirits in the woods dressed in white... "Greenwood Side" is an old tale of unwanted pregnancy, madness and murder. Echoing the Mexican folkloric figure “La Llorona” we meet the archetype of a mother driven to kill and face the eternal pain that follows.
